Billy Crockett is the son of wildlife artist, Willie Crockett. Willie, a Tangierman who now resides in historic Onancock Virginia, has devoted a good portion of his life portraying the heritage of the Chesapeake Bay, its lifestyle, and wildlife in true form through his artwork.. From this, Billy has followed in his father's foot-steps through his wildlife carving of fowl on and around the Chesapeake Bay. Like his sister, Carol, Billy states that he cannot imagine not living on the Eastern Shore. "The Shore is a part of me as is the Chesapeake Bay".
Billy surely inherited his dad's light humor, when asked about his two second places in the Ward World Championship in 2002 and 2004, he stated, " "I'm the second best carver I know...I met the best one time, but I forgot his name."
Billy was born and raised on the Eastern Shore of Virginia and enjoys the amenities that the Chesapeake Bay offers: from gunning, fishing, boating, to the natural beauty of the Chesapeake Bay. As a child he enjoyed spending time on the Chesapeake Bay with his dad and other family members. His love for the beauty of the Chesapeake Bay and its wildlife continued to grow as he became older. This inspired him to begin carving and through the years, he has mastered this art that is so detailed that there are times it is hard to determine what is living wildlife and that of one of his carvings.
